Frequently Asked Questions

How is Alamo Home Rehab different from a regular PT clinic?

Alamo Home Rehab provides outpatient therapy services in the comfort of a client's home, office, or assisted living center. This allows us to work with clients on skills right where they need them. We help our clients achieve the balance, strength, and coordination necessary to meet their individual goals, whether its returning to work or a sports team after an injury or performing daily tasks such as walking on uneven surfaces or climbing stairs. Unlike other physical therapy clinics, our patients will always see the same licensed physical therapist at each visit, with one-on-one individualized treatment that lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Also, with Alamo Home Rehab you will always see a licensed physical therapist, never an aide or PT assistant.

How do I know if Alamo Home Rehab Physical Therapy is right for me (or my loved one)?

Alamo Home Rehab may be a good fit for you if . . .

  • You feel weaker, less steady, and more short of breath than you used to.

  • You have been diagnosed with a chronic disease and would like a physical activity program to help manage your condition.

  • You have recently come home from the hospital and are having difficulty returning to your prior level of function.

  • You are having more difficulty walking, climbing stairs, standing for long periods of time, standing up from sitting in a chair, or getting out of bed.

  • You had a fall within the past year.

  • You are seeking professional guidance to implement an individualized exercise program.

  • You would prefer to have convenient physical therapy appointments in the comfort of your own home rather than traveling to and from a clinic.

What are the advantages of doing physical therapy at home versus going to a clinic?

  • Older patients will not have to worry about driving or getting a ride to and from a clinic several times a week.

  • Patients save time by not spending time traveling, getting stuck in traffic, and sitting in a waiting room.

  • Patients with weak immune systems are not exposed to unnecessary risks.

  • Patients who do therapy at home have higher rates of compliance and attendance, leading to a speedy recovery.

  • Therapists are able to show patients the exercise programs they can do on their own in the same environment where the patient will be conducting the exercises.

  • Therapists are better able to assess the challenges a client will encounter when at home and then address those issues immediately.

  • Patients see the same physical therapist at each appointment, which allows them to build a rapport and trust with the therapist, leading to better results.

If you are considering going to another outpatient clinic, we suggest calling the clinic and asking the following questions:

    • How much time will I spend with a physical therapist one-on-one?

    • How much time will I spend with an aide or PT assistant?

    • Will I work with the same physical therapist at every appointment, or will I will see different physical therapists?

    • Is there a one to one physical therapist to patient ratio, or are physical therapists dividing their time between multiple patients?

Does Alamo Home Rehab see clients who are already receiving home health services?

We provide outpatient therapy services, therefore we do not see clients while they are receiving Home Health Services (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy). Contact our office to find out if you are currently in a “Home Health Episode.”

Does the patient need to be homebound to have physical therapy in the home?

No. The patient only needs to be homebound if they are being seen by a home health agency. As an outpatient therapy clinic, we are allowed to see Medicare patients in their homes regardless of their homebound status.

Is doing therapy at home more expansive than going to a regular physical therapy clinic?

No. Our rates are equivalent to other outpatient physical therapy clinics around town.

What insurances does Alamo Home Rehab accept?

The only insurance we accept is Medicare as well as all secondary insurance plans to Medicare. However, we also accept cash-paying patients. Our cash prices are competitive, cost-saving, and time effective when accounting for deductibles, coinsurance payments, and multiplied by multiple visits a weeks.

Do patients need a doctor's referral?

For cash-paying patients: No, there is no need for a referral.

For Medicare patients:  Yes, you do need a doctor's referral but you can self-refer and we will contact your doctor to get the necessary paperwork set up for an evaluation. Contact our office to refer yourself for a therapy evaluation.
